Milk + Honey Travelers: An Anniversary Trip To Africa
Welcome back! In the latest installment of the Milk + Honey Travelers series, we’re getting an inside look at the Wiegand’s anniversary trip to Africa. Check out these real travelers' thoughts and trip summaries for a glimpse of what’s possible for you.
Russell and Andrea’s trip spanned two weeks and encompassed stays in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Mozambique. With a seamless experience that encompassed a total of 5 countries by the time we were all said and done, they were able to sit back, relax, and simply enjoy their once in a lifetime anniversary trip.
The couple has had many fun and exciting travel experiences in their past – from exploring castles and sipping high tea in Scotland, to hiking and birdwatching all over Ecuador, and everything in between. However, this was going to be their first trip to the African continent. They reached out to Milk + Honey to help them navigate how to plan a trip to a destination they knew very little about, during a time where travel was throwing curve balls left and right because of the pandemic.
A few things they mentioned were important to them was making sure they felt incredibly pampered, eating delicious food + wine, and making sure they hit the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure. Russell also mentioned that he had visions of him sipping his morning coffee while watching elephants at their watering hole – that would be his idea of perfection!
Thanks to the craziness of flights and changes that kept happening left and right before departure, the Wiegands ended up with an extremely long layover in London on their way to Africa. Since there was nothing that could be done about it, we figured if you’re gonna have a long layover in London, you might as well make a day out of it, right?! We went to work making sure they could make the most of a less than ideal situation. After a day of strolling the cobblestone streets of Covenant Garden, taking in the museums, and enjoying some of the best food and drink the city has to offer, they headed back to Heathrow Airport and hopped on a flight to Zambia.
Once in Zambia, the happy couple checked into Thorntree River Lodge, where they enjoyed a quintessential African Safari experience, inclusive of on-foot rhino tracking, breath-taking views of Victoria Falls, and a helicopter sightseeing tour.
Our Safari exceeded our expectations in every way possible! The lodges with African Bush Camp were absolutely incredible - beautifully appointed, delicious cuisine, and joyous staff. The staff at African Bush Camps truly made you feel at home! Brianna & Kelsey took care of every detail of the trip, and we traveled seamlessly, even mid pandemic!
From Zambia, Russell and Andrea headed to Zimbabwe, where they explored Hwange National Park, game drives, walking safaris, and village visits to Mambanje and Hwange.
We loved all of the activities at the African bush camps! We couldn’t get enough of the game drives, boat rides, and general beauty of it all! The staff at African bush camps were incredible! They were so attentive and kind and truly seemed joyful to take care of us!
And because we like to make dreams come true, we organized the elephants at Somalisa Camp to take their morning drinks at the precise time that coffee was being sipped at breakfast. (Ok, that might be a little out of our control, but I did specifically look for destinations and lodges where large elephant herds are the norm, and watering holes make them consistent daily guests.)
From there, they jetted off to Johannesburg, where they took a break from the luxurious tents and camps to enjoy a night in the luxurious Peermont D'Oreale Grande Hotel at Emperors Palace. Then it was off to the Mozambique coast, where they spent the remainder of their trip at an island resort exploring Mozambique, a double tank dive at Two Mile Reef, and a spectacular tour of Dom Carlos.
I can’t think of anything that would make the trip any better! It was flawlessly planned and each step of the way we felt comfortable knowing where to go and what to do using the app and also very taken care of by the staff at our lodgings.
We are now definitely hooked on safaris, and will probably be contacting you about going back! Experiencing the wildlife in Africa is unparalleled to anything else we have experienced before, and the level of care of the staff and accommodations you chose for us was also unparalleled!
Are you convinced yet that you need to plan your African Safari asap? Whether it’s Africa or another dream destination, I would love to help make your dream vacation a reality!
