Travel Trends + Planning for 2023
Believe it or not, there is less than two months left in 2022!!!
Two months to wrap up all of our goals and tasks for 2022. Two months to begin dreaming and planning for the coming year. Two months to get excited and start booking your trips for 2023! It is never too early to get started thinking about your future travel plans, in fact, the earlier the better. We are noticing some travel trends for 2023, which may shape the way in which you travel and your chosen destinations.
Three Trends for Travel is 2023
Travel Often - Multiple week-long trips, rather than one longer vacation, have become popular among travelers for a number of reasons. Firstly, people have begun to place great emphasis on their mental health and frequent getaways are offering workers the much needed breaks that they deserve in order to recharge and relax.
Additionally, because of the issues with airports and baggage these days, travelers are a lot less inclined to check a bag, just to have it get lost and be without any clothing or toiletries for three weeks in Europe. People are choosing shorter trips, whereby they do not have to pack a lot and can get everything they need for a week into a carry-on bag. Thus saving them the worry and stress of lost baggage.
Travel Consciously - Traveling, despite how lovely it may be, can be hard on the global environment in many ways. Aircraft emissions, transportation that uses fossil fuels, vast amounts of single-use plastics by airlines, hotels and restaurants, creating more garbage as well as negative impacts on local communities, are just a few of the reasons why travelers have become more eco-conscious when booking trips. Sustainable tourism or eco-travel refers to the practice of conserving the local environments and well-being of local people, as well as a focus on economic, social and environmental issues of travel destinations. There are many ways in which you can travel in a more sustainable way, and we, at Milk+Honey Travels, are here to address these concerns, if they are of particular importance to you. Some ways in which we/you can do this are:
Book tours and experiences with local companies, instead of those with US headquarters. This ensures that your money spent will go back to the local economy and people, instead of back to the US.
Offset your carbon footprint by walking around cities, instead of taking a cab/Uber, bus, etc.
Spend a few days or your trip volunteering with a local organization. Not for everyone, but would be a great way to give back and really immerse yourself in the local culture.
Make yourself aware of local customs and traditions and respect them.
Support local shops and artisans by purchasing local products.
Don’t buy illegal wildlife products and do not participate in tours or experiences that involve the mistreatment of animals and wildlife.
Bring your reusable water bottle everywhere and don’t litter.
Refuse the use of single-use plastic, such as straws in restaurants.
Book accommodations which were built using sustainable materials and are conscious of things like water conservation, environmental impact, etc.
If sustainable and eco-tourism is something that is important to you as a traveler, we would highly recommend considering a trip to: Costa Rica, Bali, Iceland, Galapagos Islands, Norway, Finland, New Zealand, and many more. Be sure to speak to us about any one of these destinations and how we can help to make sustainable travel and ecotourism a priority when booking your next trip.
Travel Outdoors - The last trend we are noticing for 2023 is a focus on trips which include outdoor experiences and we, at Mik+Honey Travels, are experts in combining a luxurious and relaxing vacation with a splash of adventure. When fancy hotels were shut down during the pandemic, people were forced to explore their own backyard with outdoor day trips and camping. This appreciation for the outdoors has carried into post-pandemic travel. We can do the research and provide you with options to explore the outdoors in your chosen travel destination. Some outdoor activities for the more adventurous type are: rock climbing, kayaking, skiing/snowboarding or mountain biking. However you don’t need to be the adventurous type to still enjoy the outdoors when traveling. Activities which are less strenuous include: hiking, star-gazing, fishing and horseback riding.
Picture yourself rock climbing for the morning on Railay Beach in Thailand, after which you return to your lavish beachside villa to spend the rest of the day poolside. Or perhaps you are sipping your morning coffee from a hot tub at a gorgeous mountainside chalet in the Swiss alps, and spend the afternoon skiing the slopes. No matter the destination, we can combine all of the amenities of luxury travel, with a little outdoor adventure on the side. Each and every destination has unique outdoor activities which highlight the local ecosystem and we can help you find the best to suit your interest and abilities.
So the clock is ticking, let’s get booking for the 2023 travel season! The earlier you book the better chance we can guarantee to get you every experience you desire.
