Best time to visit
The best time for a trip to Rwanda is during the dry season from June to September. During this time, you have a higher chance of spotting mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. The rainy season, taking place around March to May and June to September, can also be a good time to visit. During this time, the rains bring the forests to life and the popular areas are less crowded. Regardless of the season, Rwanda is a place worth visiting year round.

Kigali
The vibrant and modern capital of Rwanda is the perfect place to begin your visit. The city is home to a growing art scene, amazing cuisine, and the Kigali Genocide Memoiral—a must see for those who have the time.
Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park is located in northwestern Rwanda and encompasses five of the eight volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains. This mountain range is home to the endangered mountain gorilla, a sighting of which is the main draw for many visitors. The park is one of the leading gorilla trekking destinations in Africa and offers the ability to have an up-close experience with both mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.
Nyungwe Forest National Park
The Nyungwe Forest in southwestern Rwanda is one of the oldest rainforests in Africa. The forest is filled with wildlife like chimpanzees and rich in biodiversity. A UNESCO World Heritage site, The Nyungwe protects the largest area of montane forest in East Africa. Many visitors head to the Nyungwe Forest for chimpanzee tracking experiences, but the area is also home to more than 85 kinds of mammals.

Gorilla Trekking
For most people, a gorilla trek is at the top of the list when they think of visiting Rwanda. A trek gives you the ability to encounter one of Africa’s most majestic and gentle creatures in the wild, while immersed in the beauty of their pristine natural habitat. Expert trackers in guides lead small groups of visitors to observe these animals in their element. Though the animals are aware of your presence, they’re not bothered by it, and you’ll have a chance for an up-close encounter with the gorillas.
Gorilla trekking permits must be obtained about 6 months advance, as so few permits are available.
