Domestic Trips You Should Plan NOW For Fall Travel

Traveling in the fall is probably my favorite time to explore.  Kids are (hopefully!) back in school, and many of my favorite destinations will have fewer crowds and cooler temperatures.  This is the perfect time to go exploring around the U.S. and I’m highlighting 5 places that should definitely be on your radar.

5 trips for fall travel

Grand Canyon, AZ

The stunning natural scenery of the Grand Canyon is jaw dropping year round. Coming in the Fall gives you perfect hiking conditions, and less crowds than what you’ll find in the summer. If you are thinking of heading to the North Rim, plan your trip before mid-October. The Grand Canyon is great as a stand-alone trip, or part of a larger road trip with some of the area’s most gorgeous scenery.

Charleston, SC

Now that the humidity has dropped, strolling through the historic cobblestone streets of The Battery or sinking your toes in the sand at Folly Beach is even more enjoyable. A stay here also gives you the opportunity to check out  innovative restaurants, interesting shops, and contemporary art galleries

San Diego, Ca

Why choose San Diego in the fall? Well, quite honestly there is not really a bad time to visit this california gem. Consistently sunny weather and 70 miles of magnificent coastline are what draw people to San Diego throughout the year. Since perfect weather is a good possibility, all your favorite outdoor activities are in play -- from beach days, a hike in Torrey Pines, or a visit to Balboa Park, there is never a shortage of adventurous things to do in America’s finest city.

Sedona, AZ

Heading to this beautiful part of Arizona in autumn means that weather is a lot more temperate (nice for the hikes you’ll surely want to do) and you might catch a glimpse of the changing leaves on the area's sycamore, oak and maple trees if you visit between mid-October and mid-November. This is one of the most gorgeous places in America, and nowhere else will you find such a dramatic and colorful landscape.

Asheville, NC

Nowhere in my life have I ever seen such beautiful fall foliage than when I was in this part of the country. Nestled into a cabin with views of changing leaves as far as the eye could see, it was a display of vibrant colors we just don’t get here in California.  Head to Asheville if you’re into Bluegrass. Or craft beer. Or delicious food. Or nature. Or art. Or nice, southern people. It has all of that and more.
