What to Consider When Choosing a Honeymoon Destination

You know what I love about honeymoons? It is your first family vacation. There will be no other “first” that encompasses what this trip does, and because of that, I think it is SO important!

In light of that, what will make this first trip as Mr. & Mrs. incredibly perfect for you, is to make sure it is created with you in mind. Your honeymoon should be perfectly suited to your tastes and desires, and this is true whether you have traveled the world extensively, or the last time you went on a vacation was with your parents to Disneyland when you were 12.

Your perfect honeymoon is going to first and foremost start with the two lovely people enjoying it. But after that, it’s going to be about the two of you being in a destination that gives you the experience you are after and sets the stage for you to create the type of incredible memories that matter to you. In order to make that happen, there are a few main components I think are important that every couple should consider.

Sure, you want it to be Romantic, but how romantic?

Are you interested in enriching cultural experiences in between make-out sessions?

How much of a nightlife are you looking for?

Does the weather need to be perfect tanning weather the entire time?

Is this the time to go off the beaten path or to make sure you have more of a familiar feeling?

Would you feel more comfortable in a luxury resort or a small, romantic boutique hotel?

Is amazing food and delicious wine an absolute necessity?

Should you opt for a secluded destination or be nearby a bit more action?

What will your daily activities look like?

Are you content with an umbrella near the pool every day or are you hoping to zip line through the trees?

These are some of the things I like to uncover when I am planning a custom honeymoon experience.  Just because everyone says that this destination is perfect for your honeymoon, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s perfect for you. I am only interested in figuring out perfect for you.

And no, that doesn’t necessarily mean go big or go home, or blow your entire savings getting the premiere overwater bungalow with plunge pool at the Four Seasons Bora Bora for 2 whole weeks. (note: In case you were curious, that will run you about $70K— and I would be more than happy to make that dream come true  for you!) It just means staying true to who the both of you are, and designing the ideal experience around that.

I’ve actually created a simple way to discover your ideal honeymoon destination. Feel free to download this easy-to-follow chart, and answer a few simple questions to see where you should be headed for the perfect honeymoon.
