Places to stay in Miami Beach

Normally, when I visit a place I have never been before it’s some far off, exotic location that takes a ridiculous amount of time to get to and requires a passport stamp. But I have just returned from an amazing domestic getaway to probably one of the most popular vacation destinations in the U.S.  And now I just need to ask myself, WHY HAVE I NEVER GONE HERE?!!

Bienvenidos a Miami.

This trip was part friend-cation, part support, and part research. I spent a lot of my time visiting properties up and down South Beach (sobe for the cool kids!), to get a personal feel and understanding of the vibe, appeal, and distinction between the many hotels offered there. The following are some of my personal favorites, with a little insight as to the type of traveler that might enjoy staying there.

This hotel seemed to be the epitome of South Beach lifestyle. It has a fashion-forward, artistic focus, that greets you as soon as you step into the lobby. The hotel has a magnetic charm, and the outside pool area is a draw as well. The vanishing-edge pool even has underwater speakers that play classical music! There is also a very popular underground speakeasy type lounge/nightclub, that has become very popular with celebrities and athletes. This hotel has been around for a while and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

Outside, the “poolscape” is made up of eight different pools, with different vibes and clientele to be found. It can seem a bit busy and chaotic, but is certainly the place to see and be seen.

This is a stellar hotel from a visual perspective and the service and attention to detail is top notch. The property is stunning and beautiful, but the formalness of it may not be the type of experience travelers are looking for when they go to a beachfront location. There are high ceilings, and rich dark woods everywhere, with an Asian decor theme throughout. It is a definite departure from the typical Miami vibe, and travelers will either welcome it, or find it incongruous. This highly exclusive property is suited for those with impeccable taste and a preference for white glove service, with the deep pockets to make that happen at this property.

This hotel is perfectly suited for those who come to South Beach to party, and want to do so in style. It is a stylish setup with eye catching design, similar to what you would find it it’s sister properties in Beverly Hills and Vegas, with a few notable restaurants onsite. However, people come here to party, and party hard. Also note, the partying isn’t cheap. You can’t sit anywhere by the pool unless you are ready to fork over some serious cash. The rooms are on the small side, but people don’t really stay here to enjoy the rooms— they come to party.

This is a trendy spa hotel in an off-beach locale, that certainly has it’s place in the Miami Beach scene. It has some gorgeous view of Biscayne Bay, but no beach. The pool area is beautiful, with an infinity saltwater pool, plenty of lounge chairs and some of the most gorgeous views you will find in Miami. The spa is a definite standout, with a turkish hammam right in the center. They also offer a full menu of workout classes, including sunrise and sunset yoga. There are no children allowed on this property, and the vibe stays fun, fashionable, and lively.

This is where the uber cool kids congregate. The establishment runs off of a membership club, and even though you can snag a room without being a member, there are still members-only areas and a private pool and beach club. Here, it’s all about who …

This is where the uber cool kids congregate. The establishment runs off of a membership club, and even though you can snag a room without being a member, there are still members-only areas and a private pool and beach club. Here, it’s all about who you know and what you do to be part of this exclusive party. It is a great fit for folks in the entertainment industry who want to rub elbows with one another and have a sense of privacy and exclusivity. I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the outside bar/restaurant, Cecconis, which is a great place to get acquainted with the vibe and have some delicious food and superb cocktails.

I don’t plan a lot of domestic vacations, but my hope is that clients who use me for the big trips to Europe, Latin America, SE Asia, etc., feel comfortable letting me handle all their travel needs, and I become a trusted year-round travel advisor.  Sometimes a quick getaway is just what you need for relaxing, rejuvenating, and reconnecting with your loved ones.
